For Project/Number's 3rd event, Clapton-based artist group Vulpes Vulpes has been invited to organise and curate an exhibition at the gallery.
Alongside the exhibition, artist Berry Patten has been commissioned by P/N to create a backlit poster for the on street lightbox.
Comfort Tones presents a range of works made by artists responding to a curatorial appropriation whereby the domestic cum studio features of the Project Number space are encased yet present.
The work shown implicates the art object among those redundant design features around us in our homes and workspaces. Screen like structures dress the space, concealing the fittings. These mimic, on a different scale, the clumsy erasure of urban planning and question the functionality of these features. In turn, work placed on and around the screens takes on skeuomorphic qualities with a similar logic to veneer flooring and coal effect fires or the comfortably mechanical facets of analogue technology simulated in their digital counterparts like the faux click of a digital camera.
"The past went that-a-way. When faced with a totally new situation, we tend always to attach ourselves to the objects, to the flavor of the most recent past. We look at the present through a rear view mirror. We march backwards into the future." Marshall Mcluhan
Comfort Tones is an exhibition of works curated by Vulpes Vulpes, an artist-led group which hosts exhibitions, performances, workshops and runs an artist studio space in Clapton. The project is not for profit and is managed and run collectively.
